U2 at Glastonbury 2011 - review

Look at you! "Shouting Bono middle of U2's opening song, even better than the real thing." An entire city in the rain. "Awful time has a way of focusing the mind. Reservations U2 divided the guests of the festival, as it was first announced, before Bono's back injury has forced a postponement. But their catalog in good health and excellent staging seems well equipped to raise the spirits and wet.

Working with multiple screen, date from the early 90's, not only with the opening of songs Except from Achtung Baby, but the frenetic visual overload Zoo TV Tour and you will find them in their worst and most urgent, the board excruciating bolts of noise with his guitar at the end of the world. And one where the streets have no name, usually kept their tour together for the finale, will follow. This is a lean, a combative, pre-set to win the unconverted calibrated at their first festival show since the 80s. You can not get all of course, but it's nice to see a great band, taking nothing for granted.

Apart from an a cappella verse of Jerusalem, Bono Avalon Blarney wisely keeps to a minimum. "It could be ley lines", begins. "Maybe the time difference. But it is a very special feeling to be here." He has an instinct for the right gesture. I have not found what I was looking for property with a chorus of Moving On Up by Primal Scream are headlining at other stages. In a bizarre theatrical coup (Look! We have friends in space!), An astronaut is preparing to recite lyrics Beautiful Day in the International Space Station. D Other memorable moments are generated by the crowd. Take a whole verse I have not found what I'm looking for, while a field of flags in the breeze of the night on Sunday Bloody Sunday intensifies martial feel the song.

If there is a problem, except for the times unfortunately, the opening race of unprecedented energy (and, thanks to wind, volume), but Beautiful Day, Elevation and Vertigo approach. As a reminder, after a brilliant With or Without You, Moment of Surrender disappointing darkness feels a great time for U2 fans, but not well known to anyone. But withdrew again with a furious version of its control output only early punk, a reminder of when they were not familiar with everything to prove. Thirty years later, on familiar ground, they do hunger fierce and it is this sense of urgency - even a hint of nerves - rather than triumphalism that makes this game as a burden and memorable.
